Here’s what a few special couples are doing on this romantic day.
Vale & Vicky, together 6 weeks – officially moving in together
“So it looks like your neighbor didn’t water the plants then,” he said.
Six weeks was a long time. She’d already prepared herself to find the plants dead. Vicky had forgotten most of what she even had in this apartment. A few pieces she liked. She needed her clothes, and she loved a few of her paintings. Most of it didn’t really matter. He had literally everything already. What could she bring to really make his place her home?
“Toss the dead plants, but we’ll take the planters,” she said. “I want my computer, my candles, my mirror. I like that couch, but where would we put it? You have so many of those dumb pouf chairs.”
“Hey, the pouf chairs are not dumb! They’re comfy. Like grown up bean bag chairs!”
She shook her head. “They’re not as grown up as you think they are. And this couch is a designer brand, and it was the first nice piece of furniture I ever bought, and it has back support.”
“Okay, fine. Bring the couch if you want it. We can squeeze it in.”
He was going to keep a couple of those pouf chairs, though.
They went to the bedroom next.
“I guess we don’t need another bed,” she said. “Yours is nicer anyway. But is it pathetic that I never even got to have sex in that bed?”
Vale cocked his head. “Yes, you did.”
“What? When?”
“Now.”
Good thing the moving truck wasn’t coming until the afternoon, because they definitely wouldn’t finish packing tonight.
Robbie & Liza, together forever, approximately — adventuring

Robbie & Liza, together forever, approximately — adventuring
Robbie and Liza were told not to expect a vacation. The rain this time of year will be non-stop, the work will be demanding, the bugs will be a nuisance. And no, you can’t carry umbrellas into the jungle. You’ll have other things to carry. Didn’t you pack rain gear?
They didn’t. They are wet, hungry, dirty, stinky, and worked to the bone.

Jessica & Ian, 5 months on the sly — casually not getting pregnant
Justin shrugged and took her hands. “Steph, we can run off and elope if you want, or we can try the barn idea. We can get married here or somewhere else entirely. We can wait and have your garden wedding in the summer. But we’re finally getting married! That’s the important part.”
“Aww,” Stephanie cooed, feeling warmed up inside. She couldn’t wait to marry her best friend.
George & Blossom, married 3 years — trying for baby #2
Melissa & Hudson, “dating” 2 months — enjoying it for what it is
Hudson woke early on the morning of Valentine’s Day. Knowing it would be hours before Melissa woke, he enjoyed some peaceful fishing down by the river.
He called her downtown later in the morning.
Feeling unusually confident from an excellent catch, he bent low and kissed her hand.
“Oh God,” she said.
He’s cute. Not like Bentley hot, but solid handsome. She enjoys having him around and the sex is good. But she’s keeping her feelings in check.
He’s the kind of guy who idealizes the way things should be, lofty ideas of happy utopian communes in the sky where everybody helps milk the cows and mend the house. So if he thinks work is so great, then why does he only have a third of a job making lattes for college students and tourists?
She doesn’t need a utopia, she just wants a guy who will pay half the bills and help her raise children.
And he’s a bit of a stoner, to be honest.
But he’s twenty-four.
That’s young, she realizes. But old enough he should be on some kind of path. His sister promised to help him get his future started, but then she kind of fell into her own life. Fair enough, it’s not his sister’s job to figure out his life. It’s not Jessica’s job either.
But he’s decent enough in bed and there’s nobody else calling.
And she still finds herself hoping he’ll turn into someone he’s not. Which is dumb.
Which is why she keeps her feelings in check and enjoys the sex and lets him sleep over afterwards, because winter in Wisconsin is fucking frigid and she hates a cold bed.
Stephanie & Justin, together 4 years — planning their wedding
Stephanie has sat at this table many times, going over many wedding plans with many brides. She didn’t dare hope that someday she would be the bride at this table. But finally, after years of strife and mountains of legal paperwork, her turn has finally come.
However, there might be a little hitch in her vision.
Sharon said, “I just don’t see a garden wedding in northern Michigan in April. Even if the blizzards stop, it will still be frozen.”
The month of April was so special to them. It was when she and Justin shared their illicit first kiss all those years ago.
Stephanie frowned. “Really?”
“Come, take a peek.”
They all went outside. There was deep snow cover in most places. Even if the blizzards stopped, even if temperatures rose above freezing, even if all that snow melted, her garden wedding would be a soggy mess, if not rained out entirely.
“What do you think of a barn wedding instead?” Sharon asked.
Stephanie was no princess, by far, but she never imagined getting married in a barn. She knew they didn’t use working barns, usually. She hoped her wedding wouldn’t smell of animal feed and manure.
“They can be very artistic,” Sharon said. “It’s really all the rage these days! We can order a barn kit from the catalog, they can put it up in a weekend. You two talk it over. I’m going back inside. It’s deadly out here.”

He called her downtown later in the morning.
Feeling unusually confident from an excellent catch, he bent low and kissed her hand.
“Oh God,” she said.
“What’s wrong? I thought I’d take you out for a romantic spa day.”
“Oh, ha ha,” she giggled. “Yeah, that’s cool. But, whew, I thought you might propose or something.”
Cringe. No, thankfully he hadn’t had that in mind, either. Even so, he felt about 10% rejected by her being so appalled.
No hard feelings though—wait, scratch that, some things were definitely feeling very hard—because they checked into the spa, sought out an available hot tub, and just got straight down to business. No talking, just action.

Hudson didn’t have much experience with dating or romance or Valentine’s Day at all, but maybe this was romantic?
“Going? Already?”
“Yeah, sorry, got class. But, thanks! That was hot. It was a nice idea. I’ll call you later.”
No time to even change into her clothes, so she ran to the bus stop in her bathing suit. Maybe she’d find a random hoodie to throw over it for class?
Hudson never knew what to make of his encounters with Melissa. She left him feeling something between confused and content, adequately satisfied, and rarely hungry for more.
In any case, he enjoyed the rest of his spa day, since he paid for it already. Maybe, afterwards, he would finish off the evening down by the river where the fishing was good.

Not a bad day, all in all.

Laney & Wesley, dating 4 months — enjoying a nice, mutually satisfying, long distance thing
Laney and Wesley met in person last October, and both left their meeting feeling excited to explore a slow, long-distance relationship. They called each other soon and often. Their conversation was comfortable and satisfying, and perhaps a little warmer than it had been before they’d seen each other face to face.
As it turned out, Laney was quite fond of Wesley’s intangible presence in her life, and she looked forward to his visits. He came back in December, then a weekend for New Year’s Eve, and now she was planning to fly out to California for the first time to visit him on his own turf. Laney looked forward to seeing the dry hills and sprawling views that had him so charmed.

Wasn’t she concerned about coming out to California? Would she bump into an old haunt?
Andreas? Who?
No, she wasn’t concerned. She’d be happy to see him, in fact. She was mature. She had packed away her disappointments and moved on. She was falling in love with a wonderful man and it felt incredible.
Their short weekends together weren’t ideal, maybe, but they made the most of their time and enjoyed every minute of it. What was there to do otherwise? He was a state congressman, the very definition of a job that couldn’t relocate. And Laney wasn’t yet prepared to give up her whole family and the comforts of her hometown. She was the big sister. She owned property and rented to her aimless brother who would likely be homeless otherwise.
Laney had a great time in California. She didn’t make it a habit to kiss and tell, but her sister, Ingrid, was relentless to hear all the details. After all, it wasn’t very often that Laney Thompson got herself laid. It was somewhat of an occasion, she admitted. She texted Ingrid from bed.

Yes, I finally gave it up. Yes, it was pleasant. No, I didn’t forget how to do it. Yes, coming back home. Hope Ian didn’t burn the house down. See you tomorrow.
And so Laney would go home, and Wesley would stay. They would chat every day and visit once a month. They’d enjoy each other’s company in stasis, until one thing or another spurred them on in one direction or another, whatever direction that might be.
Keep an open mind, Laney thought. Who ever knows what might happen next?

Eeee!! Justin and Stephanie getting married ! I hope Jeremiah doesn't turn up to ruin things ... Or have I missed something ?
ReplyDeleteYou haven’t missed anything. We haven’t heard from Jeremiah since the day he ran off. He’s been laying low and doing a good job at it. But he can’t lay low forever. Which is not to say he plans to crash any weddings, but I have plans for him! 😈
DeleteSteph and Justin feel like they've been together for so much longer than four years! I guess that's because it probably was longer than four years ago in real life but also because they've packed so much drama into those four years, lol. And you have me so curious about your plans for Jeremiah now too!
ReplyDeleteLOL, Laney's text to Ingrid! I do wonder how her thing with Wesley will shake out in the end, as it seems like neither of them feels the urge to move closer at the moment.
The second pic for George and Blossom isn't showing up, btw, at least for me! Not sure if it's just me!
November 2015 was Justin & Steph’s first kiss, so coming up on six years in RL time. It is my lifelong aspiration to make these stories move faster than they do, and I’m always taking forever. I mean, I probably also shouldn’t be trying to manage and write about 255 sims. Oh well, I love each and every one of them!
Delete(And out of curiosity, how many sims do you have in Sullivan now?)
I can say that I have finally drafted far enough ahead that I do know how Laney’s future will pan out! No spoilers, of course. But I’m super excited about her story!
The second pic for George and Blossom was not too much different than the first. She is pulling him into the shower with her. Sometimes the pictures don’t load for me, too, but if I refresh the page they will.
Thanks for reading! :)
