my sweetheart #8: honeymoon

September 2088. Justin and Stephanie Nova are 28.

The day after their wedding, Justin and Stephanie headed off for their honeymoon in Sulani. The brochure promised a private, secluded beach hut and the thrill of living off the island.

Stephanie especially looked forward to some time unplugged with her new hubby. But when they arrived, they found that the Wi-Fi connection was full strength, outlets powered up to charge their devices, and there was running water and a gas stove.

What’s the first thing they should do here? Skinny dipping in the waterfall? Sandcastles? Snorkeling?

“Hang on, let me just respond to these customer inquiries real quick.”

Justin whipped out his laptop, fascinated by their connectedness. And thus, he also needed to pay an invoice, write back to his landlord, and check his application for grad school.

Woohoo! Accepted! Classes start in two weeks!

“Hang on, let me just sign this enrollment paperwork and send my tuition payment. I don’t want to lose my spot”

On top of being a new business owner and minor home renovation guru, Justin wanted to continue his education. He wasn’t content to simply renovate homes, he wanted to build them. And for that, he needed a degree and licensing. He would study for a master’s degree in architecture.

Stephanie is proud of him. Truly.

“Fine,” Stephanie said, “I’m going to go catch us something to grill for dinner…”

A couple of hours passed while Justin tinkered away at his laptop and the golden sun set around them, and Stephanie never caught anything edible. Maybe connectedness would work to their benefit. They could order a water taxi to the main island and hit up the food stalls.

And maybe, mysteriously, drop the power cord to Justin’s computer into the ocean.

Just kidding! That’s littering! Don’t you know they’re trying to clean up this island?

The next day, Stephanie finally got her husband off the computer and out into the sun!

They rented some jet skis for the day. Both of them are reasonably athletic, so they entertained themselves with lots of cool tricks.

Their little private island was full of fun spots to find, make out in, and take pictures in front of. Stephanie particularly liked a nook on the far side of the island, where the churning lava inside the mountain cast a fiery glow on their skin. Looked neat in the picture, but there wasn’t much else to do besides look at it. She wanted to look inside, but there were too many rocks and brambles in the way. “Do you think we could move some of that and take a peek?”

“Probably shouldn’t,” Justin said, “What if it’s like in Minecraft where you dig through the rock and a waterfall of lava pours out on your face and starts you on fire?”

“Ouch,” she said.

And so they didn’t.

They spent another day in the water, doing all there was to do. Then they spent their nights back at their quiet little beach hut. It was calm and relaxing, if nothing else. They had lots of nice selfies to bring home and show their family.

They couldn’t spend too long here, since the kids were back at home with Justin’s mom. And to be honest, they really enjoy their cozy little life back in Copper Hill. There’s nowhere else they’d rather be. They have a lot going on and a lot to look forward to this fall.

note: When I built this beach shack, I so wanted it to be off-grid, but apparently, vacation rentals cannot be off-grid. 😒

Okay, time for a little rant. Sorry if this one was boring to read, because I have to admit, it was terribly boring to play. And that’s not Justin and Stephanie’s fault. I’m blaming the world.

So I’m gonna need you all to give me your best gameplay ideas for making Sulani fun, because why does Sulani feel so incredibly boring? What am I doing wrong with it? This isn’t the first time I’ve taken a couple here for a honeymoon or vacation and gotten bored very very quickly.

Mt. Komorebi is also a destination world, too, but it doesn’t feel boring when replaying it. Sulani just feels like pretty spots to take selfies in, and not a whole lot to actually do.

Maybe I need to build more here? Or add some things from other packs?

What do you guys do to make Sulani fun?

  1. They are such an adorable couple! Glad Justin could drag himself away from the computer, lol!

I think Sulani is just boring, honestly. They spent a lot of time making it look cool, which it does but just like Stephanie said, there's not much else to do besides look at it.

But I think adding some different lots would help at least a little. A restaurant is a pretty glaring omission. I don't think it even has a bar, even though they're from the base game. Maybe a cool museum/art centre with Sulani-themed art/displays?

    1. Yes, new lots! One thing I added that fits well is a high-end luxury spa. And someone on Tumblr mentioned that it’s the kind of world that you have to stay in a while to really experience most of what the pack offers – like the changing ecology, the conservationist career and odd jobs that can only be done on the islands, or the pop up festivals. Or even the volcano erupting, lol! So I think I’ll probably pick a few sims to live there. Until I find someone who wants to stay full-time, I was thinking maybe a study program for some of my uni students would be fun!
